Junk silver…
Kind of unfair, don’t you think?
“Junk silver” is a term generally used for circulated 90% silver coins, generally in good-fair condition. Sometimes the grade is referred to as “average circ(ulated)”. The term junk was coined (pun intended) in this context to distinguish between numismatic or collectible coins versus just the bullion value of the silver itself. Not really junk at all, just a rock solid, internationally recognized, highly liquid form of silver bullion.
